Keeper excited by new era at Meadow Lane

Kasper Schmeichel admits Sven Goran Eriksson was a key factor in his decision to leave Manchester City for Notts County. The ambitious League Two club have stumped up a club record fee to bring in Schmeichel, who was given his City debut by Eriksson two years ago. Eriksson is the new director of football at Meadow Lane and played a part in convincing Schmeichel to drop down from the Premier League. The 22-year-old also revealed that he wanted to be part of an exciting new era for the Magpies as he looks for regular first-team football.

Excited

"I took a little bit of time to consider the potential issues, but I'm very excited to be here," Schmeichel told Sky Sports News. "I worked under him (Eriksson) at Man City and I enjoyed the time there. He was the first one to really give me my chance to play properly. "The whole project they've got going here, and all the plans they've got, are really exciting. "It's great to be here for the start of it. That was another very appealing thing, to be here from the start and not join something already in motion." Magpies boss Ian McParland added: "It's a great signing. He's coming to fight for his place with the other keepers we've got. "He's a good keeper. I've seen him over the years and Sven highly recommends him. He's worked with him and he knows what he's capable of. "He's only young and he's one for the future as well. We want to bring a few young players in and build the club for the future."
