New Latics striker secures first win of the season

Pawel Abbott scored twice to earn Oldham a fine 2-1 away win against out-of-sorts Leyton Orient. The Latics striker was reunited with manager Dave Penney this summer following their time together at Darlington. And Penney's men took the lead with just 12 minutes on the clock when Abbott drilled home from the edge of the box after his first effort had been parried by Jamie Jones. Orient came back into the contest and levelled just after the half-hour mark, though, when Ryan Jarvis arrived at the near post to force home John Melligan's precise cross.

Penalty

Abbott was to prove to be the match-winner after the break, converting from the penalty spot in the 59th minute after Sean Thornton hacked down Andy Holdsworth in the box. The goal crowned Penney's first win in charge of the Latics as they did not have to defend too much after regaining the lead, short of goalkeeper Dean Brill snuffing out Jarvis' break.
