Robins way off Trundle deal

Swindon boss Danny Wilson insists any potential deal for Bristol City's Lee Trundle remains some way off.

Wilson admits swoop for striker looks unlikely

Swindon manager Danny Wilson insists any potential deal for Bristol City striker Lee Trundle remains a long way off. The League One outfit have just two recognised strikers on their books, in Billy Paynter and recent recruit Tope Odabeyi, and Wilson confirmed his interest in former Swansea man Trundle a few weeks ago. However, he has now admitted that an agreement between the two clubs regarding the 32-year-old looks doubtful. "Both clubs have to come to an agreement first before a deal can be done and at the moment we haven't managed to do so and we are a long way off from getting something like that sorted," Wilson told skysports.com. "I was asked whether he was a player I fancied bringing on board and the answer is definitely yes because he is a quality player, but unfortunately that might not be possible."

Boost

The Robins failed to find a breakthrough on Saturday, as their second clash with MK Dons within a week ended in a goalless stalemate, but Wilson is confident of getting a first league win on the board at home to Southampton on Tuesday. "It's always disappointing not to come away with a win from your first home game of the season, but I think having beaten them in midweek in the cup made it difficult for us to repeat the act at the weekend," added the Swindon coach. "They were determined not to get beaten by us twice in a week and it was very hard to break them down, but a point is a point and they all add up on the board. "We have got to be confident at home and there should be a big crowd in for tonight, so that should work to our advantage, I hope. "They've got a lot of quality in their side still, despite coming down last season, and a win would give us a big boost in confidence. It will be a tough clash, but it should be one which we thrive on."
