Valiants looking to down Owls

Port Vale will be hoping to build on a weekend success when they play host to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carling Cup second round on Tuesday. The Valiants secured their first victory of the season against Darlington on Saturday, while they claimed the impressive scalp of Sheffield United in the first round of the cup. The Owls, who crushed Scunthorpe 4-0 in their last outing, saw off Rochdale in their opening Carling Cup contest.

Vale team news

New signing Damien McCrory will be available for Port Vale in midweek. The versatile left-sided 19-year-old arrived on Monday on a one-month loan deal from Plymouth and will be hoping to make his second debut for the club having spent time at Vale Park last term. However, Micky Adams must decide whether to stick or twist with his starting XI as he looks to claim a double Sheffield scalp. The Vale boss made two changes for Saturday's 1-0 win over Darlington following his side's midweek defeat at Macclesfield, with wing-back Adam Yates and midfielder Louis Dodds coming in for Sam Stockley and Anthony Griffith. And it remains to be seen how Adams will line up this time around as he looks to book Vale's place in the third round and a possible money-spinning tie against the Premier League's elite. Simon Richman may also get a first run out of the season following a groin problem. Midfielder Malvin Kamara, who made 18 appearances for Vale back in 2007, and forward Lewis Haldane have both joined on trial and will be training with Adams' squad, but neither are eligible to feature.
Wednesday team news
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he is set to make changes to his side for the trip to Vale Park. Laws made several changes for the 3-0 win over Rochdale in the previous round and is keen to utilise his squad once again. "We don't have a massive squad but we do have a good quality squad; that was proved against Rochdale and I expect the same against Port Vale," said Laws. Striker Akpo Sodje was an unused substitute against Scunthorpe at the weekend after recovering from a groin injury and will hope to make his first appearance of the season. Fellow frontman Luke Varney, on loan from Derby, will miss out as he is cup-tied.
