Former Hamilton striker completes switch to League One

Carlisle have captured striker Richard Offiong from Scottish side Hamilton Academical in a deal worth £75,000. Offiong signs for the Cumbrians on a two-year deal with Carlisle given the option of extending the contract for a further 12 months. Greg Abbot has been chasing the 25-year-old for some time and is relieved to finally conclude the deal. "It's great for us that we have got this deal done and signed a player we think will help to make a difference for us," the manager told Carlisle's official website. "He's a strong, fast and agile player and we think that he'll get goals. It's a good signing for us, and we're looking forward to working for him."

Goals

Offiong began his career in the youth set-up at Newcastle United but could not break into the senior squad and was loaned out several times. He signed for Doncaster Rovers in 2005 but spent only one season at the club before heading north of the border to join Hamilton. After a successful spell at New Douglas Park, he is now hoping to prove himself as a goalscorer in League One. "I just want to get on with the job now," Offiong said. "It's taken a while to finalise things but that's just football. Now that we're done I'm looking forward to the new challenge and to hopefully scoring goals for Carlisle United."
