Mariner-monial bliss!

A first win of the season and a virtual wedding... Grimsby FanZone blogger Hannah Cawsey couldn't be happier!

Hannah says 'I do' as Grimsby prove the the best men at Bury

Grimsby Town broke their duck for the season so FanZone correspondent Hannah Cawsey decided to marry them on Facebook...

This will be my last blog in a while - Leeds Festival this weekend so I miss Town's 'fixture of the season' - Aldershot at home. OK, maybe that's exaggerated a bit. We all know it's Notts County who are terrifying the league this season and with the signing of Sol Campbell this week, it's easy to see why. What a weekend it was for sports fans in general with the Ashes coming home. But more importantly, Grimsby Town got their first three points of the season away at Bury, a great day out with the travelling fans making lots of noise. As usual I went with my friends Ben and Mikey who were predicting a 1-0 win to the Mariners, but with Danny North on the scoreboard. Not quite, but Northy played a tremendous role in the win on Saturday. It was not the best game of football but a valiant effort from everyone who played ensured defensively, Town were sound. I have been saying Grimsby needed to sort out their defence and it certainly happened this weekend, which clearly came in a new-found confidence in Tommy Forecast.

Half-hearted

It just wouldn't be my blog if I didn't mention the absolutely shocking refereeing decision towards the end of the second half. An obvious handball missed by the referee and shrugged off with some half-hearted excuse about the player being too close to have handled it deliberately. But who cares? Town won, the fans are happy and the win came a lot sooner this season than it did last. Hopefully this will shut up the Mike Newell doubters for a while at least. I've just read on the official Grimsby Town FC website they're promoting their 'Early-Bird' tickets which means if you book tickets online, or over the phone, you can get discounted tickets 24 hours before the game. Bad news for season tcket holders, but good news for those who are struggling to finance going to the games this year, as we all know how expensive being a loyal supporter can get.
Marriage
In breaking news for those of you who have Facebook, Grimsby Town have their own profile where you can become friends with Grimsby Town. They asked me to marry them this week too so I feel obliged to mention them. I don't know what my wifely duties will consist of in this virtual marriage but only time will tell. It's all so sudden and I haven't even told my mum yet! On a final note to all those Town fans who are off to the Leeds Festival. A few of us have decided to all get our Town shirts out on the Saturday and sport them with pride. So if you're about and see anyone in a Town shirt you can feel free to say hi. You never know, you may get a drink out of it! Up the Mariners! Are you in (Facebook) love with the Mariners? Is Mike Newell the apple of your eye?
