Aberdeen have signed 23-year-old Italian full-back Davide Grassi on a one-year-contract.

Italian signs one-year deal at Pittodrie

Aberdeen have completed the signing of 23-year-old Italian defender Davide Grassi. After a successful trial period at Pittodrie, the former Parma prospect has been handed a one-year contract by manager Mark McGhee. Grassi is hoping he can kick-start his professional career with the Dons after he failed to make an impact in Italy and subsequently struggled at Spanish side Espanyol. "I have enjoyed my time here on trial and I'm happy I impressed the manager enough to win a deal," he told Aberdeen's official website. "I can't wait to play my first match in front of the home crowd and hopefully I will get my chance against Motherwell on Sunday." Aberdeen director of football, Willie Miller, believes that his expertise in the Parma academy will serve him well in the Scottish Premier League. He said: "We're delighted to have Davide on board for the season ahead. "He's a player who has come through the youth ranks at Parma so he has a good basis from which to develop as a player. "He's a tall and powerful left-sided defender and I know the manager has been impressed by what he's seen of him so far."
