Barcelona will be out to improve their past record in the Uefa Super Cup when they meet Shakhtar Donetsk in the Stade Louis II Stadium on Friday. The Catalans have participated in the Super Cup seven times before but have only won twice, with their previous meeting in Monaco ending in an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Sevilla in 2006. UEFA Champions League winners Barca and Uefa Cup victors Shakhtar are no strangers having met in the group stages of the Champions League last term, with both sides recording a win apiece. Barca manager Pep Guardiola knows that victory would see his side pick up their fifth trophy in a matter of months following their success in the Champions League, Primera Division, Copa del Rey and last week's Spanish Super Cup win.

Team news

However Barca will have to do without defender Rafael Marquez (knee) and Andres Iniesta for the one-off clash. Iniesta had hoped to be fit for the match after seeing his whole pre-season disrupted by a muscle tear in his leg suffered back in May. Barca staff are keen to wrap the Spanish international up in cotton wool ahead of their first Primera League game this weekend and it is thought he will not be risked against Shakhtar. The Ukrainians will bid farewell to classy defender Dmytrov Chygrynskiy at the end of the match with the 22-year-old having already agreed a 25million Euro deal to join Barcelona. Shakhtar will be without forward Brandao but still possess a deadly frontline of Ilsinho, Luiz Adriano and Fernandinho.
