Manager leaves Oakwell after poor start to season

Barnsley have dismissed manager Simon Davey following a disappointing run of results at the start of the season. The Tykes have managed to progress to the third round of the Carling Cup but they have struggled in the Championship. A 2-2 draw with Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the season has been followed by four straight losses and Barnsley are currently bottom of the table. Davey admitted after Saturday's 3-1 defeat at home to Reading that he felt the same frustration as the supporters. However, he will not get the chance to try and turn the situation around as club bosses have decided to remove him from his position. Barnsley will now look to get a new man in place ahead of their next Championship fixture against Watford on 12th September. Davey took charge at Oakwell in 2006 and steered the club to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2007/8.
