Lyon beat Nancy 3-1 as Lens drew with Nancy and Montpellier kept up their fine form.
Lyon started the day two points behind Bordeaux but collected three points against
Nancy to move, temporarily at least, to the top of the table.
Bafetimbi Gomis set Lyon on their way to victory with the opening goal on 37 minutes and Lisandro Lopez added a second four minutes after the interval.
Youssouf Hadji pulled a goal back for Nancy but Michel Bastos restored Lyon's two-goal cushion after 67 minutes.
