Lyon beat Nancy as Lens draw with Rennes

Lyon beat Nancy 3-1 as Lens drew with Nancy and Montpellier kept up their fine form. Lyon started the day two points behind Bordeaux but collected three points against Nancy to move, temporarily at least, to the top of the table. Bafetimbi Gomis set Lyon on their way to victory with the opening goal on 37 minutes and Lisandro Lopez added a second four minutes after the interval. Youssouf Hadji pulled a goal back for Nancy but Michel Bastos restored Lyon's two-goal cushion after 67 minutes. Lens and Rennes both maintained their unbeaten starts to the season by playing out a fiery 2-2 draw that included two red cards. Ismael Bangoura put visiting Rennes in front after just four minutes but Yohan Demont equalised from the penalty spot in the 20th minute. Both sides then had a player dismissed early in the second half as Marco Ramos of Lens and Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila were given their marching orders. Lens looked set to clinch all three points when Issam Jemaa struck on 72 minutes but a last-gasp leveller from Asamoah Gyan rescued Rennes. Montpellier surged up the table following an impressive 3-0 triumph at Nice. Geoffrey Dernis broke the deadlock after just four minutes and Victor Montano and Lilian Compan also found the target in the second half. Sochaux returned to winning ways after a couple of defeats as they overcame Monaco 1-0 at home. Vaclav Sverkos scored the crucial goal when he slotted home a penalty after 23 minutes. St Etienne picked up their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Grenoble, Christophe Landrin netting the only goal of the contest on 23 minutes. Grenoble slip to the bottom of the table and remain the only club without a point after Auxerre managed a goalless draw against newly promoted Boulogne. Lorient beat Le Mans 1-0 thanks to an effort from Marama Vahirua midway through the second half.
