Danish striker looks to fill void left by former star Marcus Berg
FC Groningen have moved to replace former star striker Marcus Berg with FC Copenhagen frontman Morten Nordstrand.
The 26-year-old has initially joined on loan although the Dutch club are believed to have agreed a first option to buy the Denmark international should the situation arise.
Groningen have been long-term admirers of Nordstrand but have been knocked back by the Danish club in the past.
However the striker has fallen out of favour with the Danish giants and even spent time on the bench last term, giving Groningen the chance to replace hotshot Berg following his departure to Hamburg in the summer.
"At FC Copenhagen I wasn't a first-team regular all the time and I wanted to be that again," Nordstrand told Groningen's
official website.
"At FC Groningen I have a bigger chance to play every game and I am very delighted with that. I know the club has been trailing me for years and that flatters me.
"I know Nicklas Pedersen and also Oluwafemi Ajilore, who both played in Denmark. I see the transfer as a move ahead. I think the Eredivisie has a higher level than the Danish league.
"In the Netherlands they play more technical and I think I can do that."
