Carl Baker's second hat-trick in three games saw Stockport beat Crewe 4-1 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Stockport's Carl Baker bagged his second hat-trick in three games during the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night. In-form forward Baker scored twice in the opening 33 minutes to set Stockport on course for a 4-1 win at Cheshire rivals Crewe. On-loan Reading striker Nicholas Bignall marked his Stockport debut with a third before half-time, and although Calvin Zola pulled one back late on, Baker grabbed his seventh goal in three games at the death. Bradford came from behind to win 2-1 in their Roses clash away to Rochdale. Craig Dawson broke the deadlock in the 59th minute for the hosts but Michael Flynn and Scott Neilsen hit back to send the Bantams through. MK Dons claimed a 3-1 win at home to League Two high-fliers Dagenham & Redbridge. Dean Lewington gave the 2008 winners a 55th-minute lead and a Jermaine Easter double soon after meant Joshua Scott's late reply for the Daggers was merely a consolation. Northampton needed penalties to get past Wycombe after a 2-2 draw at Adams Park. Ryan Gilligan's 40th-minute penalty for Northampton was cancelled out by a 60th-minute spot-kick from Jon-Paul Pittman. Steve Guinan restored the visitors' lead six minutes from time and although Pittman's second took the tie into penalties, Northampton won the shoot-out 3-0. Norwich's eventful start to the season continued with Chris Martin's 30th-minute strike giving them a 1-0 home win against Brentford. Lee Thorpe's 27th-minute goal was enough for Darlington to claim their first win of the season, a 1-0 victory at home to Lincoln. Torquay eased into the second round with a 3-1 win at Cheltenham. A Danny Stevens double and an Elliot Benyon effort put the Gulls firmly in charge at half-time and Joshua Low's 55th-minute reply failed to spark a comeback. Barnet claimed the honours in the all-London affair with Millwall, Jake Hyde and Ismail Yakubu scoring in each half for a 2-0 home win. Wade Small and Drew Talbot bagged two goals apiece as Chesterfield romped to a 5-1 win away to competition newcomers Burton. Huddersfield made a lightning start away to Rotherham with both Peter Clarke and Robbie Simpson scoring inside seven minutes and they hung on for a 2-1 triumph despite Adam Le Fondre replying. Accrington came from behind to win 2-1 at League One Oldham, a Sean Gregan own goal cancelling out Danny Whitaker's opener before Phil Edwards won it. Brett Pitman and Alan Connell set Bournemouth on course for a 2-1 home victory against Yeovil, who had a late reply through Jonathan Obika. Carlisle enjoyed a shoot-out victory at Morecambe after fighting back for a 2-2 draw. Veteran Graham Kavanagh twice levelled for Carlisle - the second a last-minute equaliser - and the vistiors took advantage to prevail 4-2 on spot-kicks. Bury also went through on penalties, dumping out League One Walsall 5-4 in the shoot-out after a 0-0 draw at the Bescot. Late goals by Simeon Jackson (penalty) and Clive Platt meant a 1-1 draw between Gillingham and Colchester, with hosts Gillingham going through 4-3 on penalties. The night's other shoot-out winners were Hereford, who triumphed 4-2 after a 0-0 draw at home to Bristol Rovers.
