Wigan midfielder calls time on his international days
Wigan midfielder Jason Koumas has announced his retirement from international football.
The 29-year-old arrived at his decision following talks with Wales boss John Toshack.
Koumas has a hamstring injury and would not have been fit to play in Wales' World Cup qualifier with Russia on Wednesday in Cardiff, and has chosen this moment to quit the national team.
Koumas has won 34 caps and would almost certainly have retired ahead of next year's Euro 2012 qualifiers.
With just away games with Finland and Liechtenstein to follow the Russia clash in qualifying Group Four, Koumas has decided now is the right time to step down.
