Hoops star hopes for international clearance

Danny Fox is hoping to have been cleared to make his Scotland debut in time for a friendly date against Japan. The Celtic full-back was born in Cheshire, and has represented England at U21 level, but qualifies for selection through a Scottish grandfather. He had been hoping to receive a call-up for the World Cup qualifying double-header against Macedonia and Holland, but was blocked by red tape. The 23-year-old is still hopeful of being drafted into George Burley's plans in the future, though, and has set his sights on a meeting with Japan in Yokohama on 10th October as an opportunity to make his international bow. He said: "I couldn't have been called up for the games against Macedonia and Holland because all the paperwork hasn't gone through yet. "To be fair, those are such big games that it might not have been wise for George Burley to have unsettled the squad by bringing new players in anyway. "The next match after that is in Japan next month and, if I'm still fit and playing for Celtic, I'd love to be selected for that one."
