Ross County starlet signs on

Motherwell have confirmed the signing of highly-rated youngster Ryan Scanlon. The 17-year-old has arrived at Fir Park from Ross County and will go straight into Well's youth set-up. Motherwell were delighted with the capture after fending off interest from a host of clubs. "We had been working away for the last two or three weeks on the deal," said Well youth boss Gordon Young. "He's actually a Motherwell boy, went to Dalziel High School, but he slipped the net but he's been on our radar for a while. "He went up to Ross County and was one of their stand out players, so much so there has been a lot of interest from both north and south of the border, particularly from the bigger clubs in Glasgow. "He was struggling to settle up there and we've managed to get in and secure his signature. He's made it clear that he wants to play for Motherwell and rightly sees a fantastic opportunity at a club that is promoting young guys into the first-team. "In terms of what the player will bring to my team - he's a left sided centre midfielder who gives us great flexibility in terms of how we'll shape up in the middle of the park. By bringing in a natural left-sided player, it keeps my options open to change the formation and not always the personnel. "He's a naturally very fit young man but even at that, he'll take time to come up to the level and the tempo our boys regularly train at. That's something our current boys should take great pride in but I am sure Ryan will get up to speed very quickly indeed." Motherwell have also confirmed that goalkeeper Ross Hyslop has returned to the club after spending a year with Scunthorpe United in England.
