You have voted for the best player to wear a Leicester City shirt and the winner is.... Gary Lineker. We asked fans of each of the 92 English League teams and Scottish Premier League sides to nominate their all-time favourite footballers and Lineker topped the poll. World Cup winner Gordon Banks came in second while Turkish midfielder Muzzy Izzet was third in the voting.

Gary Lineker

The second all-time leading England goalscorer began his career with his hometown club in 1978. The striker stayed with the Foxes for seven years before departing for Everton for £800,000 in 1985. Lineker helped Leicester to two promotions to the top flight during his time at the club once in 1980 and then again in 1983. In his final season Lineker finished as the First Division's joint leading goalscorer with 24 goals. During his time at Filbert Street the frontman also won his first ever England cap setting him on his way to a total of 80 appearances for his country. Lineker finished with an impressive record of 95 league goals in 194 games for the Foxes.

Gordon Banks

The 1966 World Cup winner was plying his trade with Leicester when he helped England to their solitary triumph on the world stage. Renowned as the best goalkeeper in the world, Banks played nearly 300 league games for the Foxes between 1959 and 1967. Bought for a now paltry £7,000 from Chesterfield his impact was immediate. Banks helped the club reach two FA Cup finals in 1961 and 1963 but fell at the final hurdle against Tottenham and Manchester United respectively. Banks did gain some domestic success with the Foxes when he won the League Cup in 1964 against Stoke although the England goalkeeper was to suffer more Wembley heartache when Leicester failed to defend the trophy and subsequently lost to Chelsea in the final a year later.

Muzzy Izzet

Released by Chelsea as a youngster Izzet found a permanent home at Filbert Street. After initially signing on loan Izzet enjoyed eight years with the Foxes, forming a dominant partnership in the heart of midfield with Robbie Savage. Izzet helped the club to the Premier League under Martin O'Neill in 1996 and followed that up with two League Cup winners' medals in 1997 and 2000. Izzet's achievements for Leicester also earned him international recognition with Turkey whom he helped to third place at the 2002 World Cup.
