George Burley says he will not risk players who are not 100 per cent fit for the Japan friendly.
Scotland boss will assess players' fitness ahead of Japan clash
George Burley has admitted that he will not risk players who are not 100 per cent fit for Scotland's friendly in Japan next month.
The decision comes after Celtic assistant manager Mark Venus urged Burley to not pick Hoops midfielder Scott Brown if his persistent ankle problem kept flaring up.
The Scotland boss was adamant that players would not be rested for the clash in the Far East but if some were not fully fit then he would consider not calling them up.
The former Hearts manager also indicated that he will hold talks with league managers to discuss the fitness levels of certain players prior to the match.
"Nobody will be rested and I will pick my strongest squad for an important game," he told the
Scottish Sun.
"But if someone is injured or is carrying a knock, of course we will look at it. I will speak to the managers before I announce the squad next Wednesday."
Opportunities
Burley also announced that he would be using the game to blood new players with Blackpool's Charlie Adam and Preston's Ross Wallace rumoured to be closing in on call-ups.
"We will take the chance to look at one or two new players," he added.
"But I feel it's also important to keep some continuity after the progress that we have made in the last six months.
"We only have a few dates for friendlies so the game in Japan is important for us."
