Former Celtic man looking to impress Les Violets
Toulouse have handed a trial to former Celtic defender Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe as they look to ease their defensive injury woes.
The 30-year-old signed for the Hoops initially on loan from Rennes in January 2007, but after signing permanently later on that year he tore his Achilles tendon, keeping him sidelined for the majority of the 2007/08 season.
The Cameroon international never regained his place at Parkhead and was subsequently released at the end of the season.
However, the defender has the chance to impress at Toulouse over the space of a 10-day trial with defenders Albin Ebondo, Cheikh M'Bengue, Mohamed Fofana and captain Mauro Cetto all out injured, with Cetto expected to be out for three months.
"I am going to do my best to earn a contract, I will try, it will be fantastic to have a contract here," Doumbe said.
"They are a good bunch of people. I like the team spirit here, hopefully I can impress them."
Meanwhile, Toulouse assistant coach Thierry Uvenard confirmed that he would be casting a watchful eye over Doumbe.
"He is a full-back who can also play in the centre," he explained. "He will remain with us between eight and 10 days."
