Keeper points finger at forwards rather than defence
Goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt has hit back at criticism of the Bayern Munich defence and instead pointed the finger at their attack.
Bayern's backline came under fire in the aftermath of Saturday's 1-0 Bundesliga defeat by Hamburg.
The German giants went down to a late Mladen Petric strike yet Butt believes Bayern could have had the game won by then.
The veteran keeper, who has recently replaced Michael Rensing between the sticks, reckons they need to be more clinical up front rather than focus on shoring up their defence.
"I don't see the point in this discussion," he told
Kicker-Sport magazine.
Missed chances
"We did not lose because we were playing either a three- or four-man defensive line.
"If there was something not working properly that match, then it was the way we handled our chances in front of goal.
"This is something we need to do a lot better against Juventus in the Champions League this week.
"There is no use blaming the defence when you are getting beat the way we did."
Saturday's defeat left Bayern seventh in the Bundesliga with just three wins from seven.
