Former Stoke boss lasts just nine months at Gresty Road

Crewe Alexandra have parted company with manager Gudjon Thordarson following a run of four successive defeats. Thordarson only took charge at Gresty Road at the end of 2008, but was unable to prevent the club from being relegated from League One. Despite briefly lifting the Railwaymen out of the drop zone, a run of 10 games without a win in the final weeks of the campaign condemned the club to relegation. However, Thordarson had enjoyed a largely positive start to the new season after taking 12 points from the opening six games in League Two. The wheels have come off in recent weeks and a run of four defeats in a row has seen Crewe slip to 15th in the table. Thordarson's signings and playing style have also drawn criticism from fans, with the team having shipped 12 goals in four matches. Following a board meeting at the club on Thursday night, the decision was made to dispense with the former Stoke boss after just nine months. Former long-serving manager Dario Gradi has taken control of first-team affairs until further notice and will be back in the dug-out for Saturday's game at home to Rotherham United.
