Roma legend could play for Azzurri again

Roma ace Francesco Totti has confirmed that he could make a shock return to the Italy squad. The 33-year-old retired from the international game after the World Cup win in 2006, although he did not officially confirm it until the following year. Since Totti's decision to quit, he has continued to play well for Roma and has begun this season in excellent fashion with six goals in their opening seven matches. Now after constant calls from the media, his club manager Claudio Ranieri and even his wife, Totti has admitted he would answer Marcello Lippi's call if it came. "It depends on coach (Marcello Lippi's) choices and my condition, but I owe (Lippi) a lot," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. Totti currently has 53 caps for Italy, scoring nine goals in the process. Italy have already qualified for next summer's finals, but their performances have been anything but convincing, which has led to the media calling for Totti's recall. And Lippi himself has refused to rule out the prospect of bringing Totti back into the fold. "Totti is a great person and a great player," Lippi "I know there will be controversies (about selections) between now and June. I enjoy them, bring them on. I'm not excluding anything."
