Should Beckham be on the plane to South Africa next June? The Supplement guests are at loggerheads.

Who will be on the plane to South Africa?

The debate on who should be in England's squad will rage up and down the country for months to come but Brian Woolnough is interested to know if his guests would take David Beckham. "At this juncture it is difficult because you don't know what his fitness and what his from is going to be like come June, " said Oliver Kay. "My view is that if everyone is fit and on his form then I would not have him in. With a fully fit squad and with people like Hargreaves, Joe Cole and Walcott fit I don't see him as being one of England's best two players on the right hand side. "Do we take three right hand midfielders so we can accommodate Beckham? Perhaps we will. "What I would say come next year there will be injuries and I am sure Beckham will an automatic choice," added The Times man. "But there is no use looking at Beckham's performance for 30 minutes in what effectively was a testimonial game against Belarus and saying look what he can do - he has not had any impact as a substitute for any of England's previous games." Henry Winter agrees with Oliver and believes that England need pace out on the right. "This tournament is going to be all about pace - the player who I think could be the player of the tournament next year is Maicon the Brazilian right back who is even more attack minded than Johnson. He is an athlete - you could put him on an athletics track." However The Sun's Shaun Custis thinks that Beckham still has a lot to offer England. "You don't want people running around like headless chickens though," said Shaun. "You want someone to put their foot on the ball have a bit of a look around and that is what Beckham still does very well and he puts in a good cross. I'm taking him. "He keeps the ball very well and there is a bit of an air of authority when he comes on. I am not of the opinion that if he goes he has to be able to play for the full 90 minutes of every game. I really think you can take a player like him that can do 20-25 minutes. A man who takes a great dead ball and calm's everything down. Just one player like that though and the one is him."
