Defender nearing return after lengthy lay-off
Doncaster Rovers defender Sean McDaid is closing in on a return to action after 18 months on the sidelines.
The 23-year-old dislocated his knee in a practice game in April 2008 and has since been frustrated by a couple of agonising setbacks.
He was close to coming back last season but broke down and required further surgery.
McDaid is now making good progress and manager Sean O'Driscoll is pleased the injury nightmare finally appears to be coming to an end.
"I think there have been dark moments for him. He's been through a lot has Sean," said O'Driscoll.
Underlying problem
"He came back and he was flying and then we found that there was an underlying problem.
"We thought it was one he may be able to live with, but his knee blew up after a routine training session.
"The surgeon then found out the root of the problem which has made his rehab longer than it should have been.
"Once they went in and found out exactly what it was, it was just a matter of time before he got back."
It is understood O'Driscoll will look to loan out McDaid over the next few weeks to build up his match fitness.
