Physio admits Allison is more equipped for post

Tranmere caretaker boss Les Parry admits he may not be suited for the managerial vacancy, but has urged Wayne Allison to apply. Rovers are in the hunt for a new long-term appointment after sacking John Barnes, who was dismissed after less than four months in charge at Prenton Park. Parry and Allison, along with the aid of reserve and youth-team coach Shaun Garnett, guided the team to only their third win of the season against Brighton at the weekend. Yet Parry admits that combining his job as club physio with the manager's role is proving difficult, hence his uncertainty over making himself available for the vacancy. "Whether I am enjoying it enough to want it long-term is another matter. At this moment in time, probably not," Parry told the Liverpool Daily Post. "It is difficult because I am doing two jobs and that does not help. All of my days are packed at the moment. "There is all the peripheral stuff the manager has to do - talking to players who aren't happy and things like that. "It does not bother me but I don't particularly enjoy it." Parry believes his colleague Allison, known to the Rovers faithful as 'The Chief', is better suited for the job and has urged him to make himself available. Parry added: "The Chief was talking to me about applying for the job and was a bit embarrassed. But I said 'put in for the job, it makes no odds whether I want it or don't want it, you might as well apply for it'."

Unrealistic

Barnes' reign lasted just 11 league games and the former Celtic and Jamaica boss believes too much was expected of him after the club lost several first choice players in the summer. "I did as well as I could," Barnes told Sky Sports News. "Obviously, expectations were high - unrealistic in my opinion. "They were unrealistic because the Tranmere team of last year isn't the Tranmere team of this year. "With the players that they lost, five of their first team players, this year was always going to be harder. "Tranmere fans expected us to be up there when, realistically, it was never going to happen overnight. "It would have been nice to be given enough time."
