Twente march on as champions are humbled
FC Twente marched on at the summit of the Eredivise table while Ajax got the better of champions AZ Alkmaar.
Steve McClaren's
Twente ensured they would top the table this weekend after putting
Groningen to the sword 4-0.
The result was never in doubt with 22 minutes played thanks to goals from on-loan Miroslav Stoch and Dwight Tiendalli.
Blaise NKufo's successful penalty confirmed the destination of the points with Bryan Ruiz's 80th minute effort adding the icing on the cake.
PSV kept up the pressure on the leaders with an impressive 4-0 success at
NEC Nijmegen.
The visitors were on the front foot from the off with Balazs Dzsudzsak giving PSV the lead inside the opening minute.
Jonathan Reis doubled PSV's lead soon after and things got even better for Fred Rutten's side after half time.
Otman Bakkal got in on the act with Danko Lazovic's penalty minutes later completing the rout.
Ajax continued their fine run of form with an impressive 4-2 away win at Dutch champions
AZ Alkmaar.
Ronald Koeman's side had the better of the opening half with Mounir El Hamdaoui giving the home side a 28th minute lead.
However, a blistering spell of three goals in nine second half minutes for Ajax saw the game turn on its head.
Urby Emanuelson, Luis Suarez and Gregory van der Wiel all netted before Suarez added his second in injury time.
Graziano Pelle pulled one back for AZ late on, but it proved nothing more than a consolation for the champions.
Willem II have climbed away from the drop zone with a 4-1 success over fellow strugglers
Heerenveen.
Following a goalless first half Sergio Zijler broke the deadlock within minutes of the restart.
Said Boutahar added a second, although the visitors threatened a comeback when Michal Papadopulos pulled one back on 65 minutes.
However, Frank Demouge's brace gave Willem II just their third win of the season, while Heerenveen are now second from bottom in the table.
