Bochum eye swift appointment

Bochum financial director Ansgar Schwenken hopes to have a new manager in place by the end of the week.

Herrlich linked with vacant role

Bochum financial director Ansgar Schwenken hopes to have a new manager in place by the end of the week. The Bundesliga strugglers sacked Marcel Koller after the recent 3-2 defeat by Mainz, with Frank Heinemann taking caretaker charge for the weekend loss at home to Werder Bremen. Heinemann is not a leading candidate for the permanent position as club bosses close in on a replacement for Koller. Schwenken would like to be able to make an announcement before the next league match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. "There has been no decision made just now, but we will have some news ahead of training on Tuesday or Wednesday," Schwenken told the Rheinische Post. "We have been in talks with three to four people regarding this, mainly to broaden our horizon before making a decision." Former Mainz coach Jorn Andersen has been linked with the role, while Germany Under 19 boss Heiko Herrlich is another name in the frame. However, the German Football Association insists they have yet to be contacted about Herrlich. "Up until 11 o'clock this morning we have had not been officially approached by Bochum regarding Heiko Herrlich," spokesman Harald Stenger told Westfalische Allgemeine Zeitung.
