Assistant boss not fretting about manager's position at the KC Stadium

Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton is not worrying about Phil Brown's future after the Tigers boss opted to step out of the spotlight following the 2-1 win over Stoke City. A late goal from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink secured the points at the KC Stadium, with the result lifting Hull out of the Premier League relegation zone. Brown's position as Tigers chief has come under scrutiny in recent weeks and he opted not to attend the post-match press conference on Sunday. Horton filled in for Brown and believes the Hull manager still has a bright future in football regardless of any changes in the coming weeks.

Good manager

"He's having a Guinness - he deserves one," said Horton, when asked about Brown's absence at the post-match press conference. "He does like the spotlight - there's nothing wrong with that - but tonight he's chosen not to. "He's just come out of the spotlight. He's having a Guinness. Why shouldn't he? "He's a good manager and does lots of good things that people don't see. He's got a great future in the game." Horton, however, was more guarded when asked whether he felt the win had saved Brown's job. "I refuse to answer that question," he said. "I don't think it should be asked today. "We hope we can now go on a run, and nobody talks about stupid things like that." The Tigers were the better team during the game and Horton was happy with the performance after coming from behind to claim the points. Horton said: "It was a good display. I thought the manager got the tactics spot on. "We called for a big effort from them, and I thought they responded brilliantly. "There's a great feeling in the dressing room. It's like we've won at Wembley again." As for Jimmy Bullard's 90-minute performance, Horton added: "He was tremendous - he'll get every man-of-the-match award going. "He's got the champagne - but he'll recognise what others have done."
