Luck of the Irish

Geoff Shreeves reveals a different side to Sir Alex Ferguson and backs Ireland to beat France...

Trapattoni is the key to Ireland's dreams

I was at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and like many of Monday's newspapers I was really interested in what Sir Alex Ferguson had to say, only I'm talking pre-match not post. An hour before the kick-off in one of the most important games in United's season Sir Alex invited three soldiers into our interview room. The servicemen were there as part of The Remembrance Day Parade and were thrilled to meet Fergie. He was generous with his time, listened intently to their stories and was full of admiration for their courage. I know Sir Alex often delivers the most frightening of tongue lashings to whoever he feels deserves it but he also just as regularly offers comfort and support to folk he feels are equally deserving. After the defeat the champions now trail Chelsea by five points and that is reflected in their price of 10/3. If you don't think the boys from The Bridge will be dislodged then a finishing tri-cast could be for you. Chelsea first followed by Utd and then The Gooners is 3/1. On the international scene this week the game that interests me the most is Republic of Ireland against France. The French are 6/4 favourites with The Republic priced at 13/8. I like the way Trapattoni has moulded his side and his firm discipline reminds me of Fabio Capello and England. I fancy them not necessarily to win on the night but to go through at 5/2. Remember, all the pressure is on France. Same for us punters, it's all about holding your nerve. Free Bets - Bet £20 Get £20 Free
