Nicolas Anelka says winning the Premier League with Chelsea would be bigger than his Arsenal success.
Striker aims to top his Gunners success
Nicolas Anelka admits that winning the Premier League with Chelsea this season would be a bigger achievement than when he triumphed with Arsenal.
The Blues travel to Emirates Stadium on Sunday with the Frenchman determined to put a dent in his former club's title aspirations.
The 30-year-old has not won the league since claiming the double with Arsenal in 1998 and is hoping Chelsea can build on the five-point lead they have built up at the top of the table to take the title come May.
Anelka scored his first goal in eight games in the 1-0 win over Porto on Wednesday that secured top spot in their UEFA Champions League group but the frontman is focusing all his attention on the league.
"Winning it with Chelsea will be even bigger than when I did it with Arsenal," he told the
London Evening Standard.
"That will mean I'm in one of the biggest teams in the world.
"When I won it with Arsenal I did appreciate it at the time. Sometimes you only have one chance in your life. I had this chance before and now I have a second chance to win it again.
"I have had a lot of time to wait to win something again in England. I won the FA Cup last season and I hope this season I will win the title.
"I don't know if this team are better than the Arsenal one I played in. Arsenal were strong but this Chelsea side are strong too.
"I did it with Arsenal and I can definitely do it as well with Chelsea."
Anything is possible
A win for Chelsea on Sunday would leave the Gunners trailing their London rivals by 11 points, although Arsene Wenger's men do have a game in hand, but Anelka insists defeat for Arsenal would not signal the end of their title challenge.
"Anything is possible in football. Even if we're on top and a lot of points in front of everybody, it's possible we could make a mistake after," he added.
"We will try to win, of course, and if we do, we will focus on all the games after Arsenal because every game is important. Beating Porto means we will go to Arsenal with confidence.
"We wanted to finish first in our Champions League group. It's done and it think everyone is happy."
