Guttridge and Gilligan on target for Town

Northampton made it five games unbeaten with a 2-0 win over promotion-chasing Bournemouth at Dean Court. The Cherries started brightly in pursuit of a third consecutive victory to close the gap on League Two leaders Rochdale, but Luke Guttridge gave Northampton the lead with a drilled finish past Shwan Jalal after just five minutes. Only 10 minutes later, lively midfielder Ryan Gilligan doubled the Cobblers lead, giving Jalal no chance with a thumping shot into the top corner from 18 yards out. Not even the introduction of Cherries legend Steve Fletcher on the half hour mark could turn the tide as Bournemouth looked worryingly out of sorts. Defender Ryan Garry in particular looked off the pace against the physical threat of Adebayo Akinfenwa. In-form striker Brett Pitman had the Cherries' best chances in the second half, but despite the backing of a vocal home crowd on a freezing afternoon, Bournemouth never really troubled Chris Dunn in the Northampton goal.
