Skipper disciplined after chairman criticism

Kilmarnock have imposed disciplinary sanctions against captain Kevin Kyle following his public criticism of chairman Michael Johnston. The club have not revealed the details of the 28-year-old striker's punishment, which relates to two separate incidents. Days before the departure of former manager Jim Jefferies, Kyle accused Johnston of questioning him about the tactics of the then Killie boss. The former Sunderland and Coventry forward had earlier been critical of the club's decision to remove a doctor from the payroll after he struggled with illness before New Year. A Kilmarnock club statement read: "The disciplinary proceedings initiated by the club in relation to Kevin Kyle's comments to the Daily Record newspaper, which were printed on 1st January 2010, and to the Sun newspaper, which were printed on 8th January 2010, have been concluded. "The club has imposed a disciplinary sanction, the nature of which will remain confidential. The matter is now closed." Kyle was previously quoted as saying in relation to the Jim Jefferies incident: "The chairman called me and, more or less, asked if I'd mind discreetly talking about the manager and his tactics. "I just said, 'no, wait a minute, I'm just a player. That's got nothing to do with me.' "I felt awkward. You don't try and go behind people's backs - that's the worst thing you can do in football." Meanwhile, back in early January Kyle hit out at not being able to see a club doctor. "The chairman is trying to cut costs but you can do that with things that aren't required, and a doctor is," he said.
