Posh midfielder reunited with Ferguson at Deepdale
Preston completed a last-minute swoop to sign midfielder Paul Coutts from Peterborough United.
Coutts played for North End boss Darren Ferguson during their time together at London Road and was eager to follow his boss away from the relegation-threatened club.
The 21-year-old played 16 times this season for the struggling club, who parted ways with manager Mark Cooper on Monday, and details of his switch to Deepdale are expected to be announced on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Posh captain George Boyd has admitted his shock at the swift departure of Cooper, who won just one of his 13 games in charge after taking over from Ferguson.
"It's a massive shock to us all," the 24-year-old striker told the club's
official website.
"We only found out as we were leaving training. Results haven't been good but nobody expected the gaffer to get the sack.
"The buck stops with us. The players are the ones who go out on the pitch looking for results and they haven't been up to scratch."
He added: "We knew that the pressure was starting to build up on the gaffer but it's still a shock that he has gone.
"We need to change things around on the pitch starting on Saturday but the team spirit is still there. We still firmly believe that we can get off the bottom of the league and there is still time for us to stay up."
