Crewe battle back against Imps

Lincoln's Davide Somma was denied a dream debut as Crewe hit back late on to snatch a 1-1 draw. Somma - signed on loan from Leeds this week - struck early in the second half to put the Imps in front but Crewe levelled in the 84th minute when Byron Moore set up Shaun Miller, who flicked the ball home from close range. Crewe dominated the first half but were unable to make their pressure pay. And Dario Gradi's side were almost caught out by a long-range shot from Matthew Saunders which beat keeper Steve Phillips but struck the post. Almost immediately Crewe hit back with Joel Grant turning his marker inside the box before firing a low shot which came back off the woodwork. Lincoln edged in front in the 46th minute when Chris Herd, on loan from Aston Villa, played the ball over the Crewe defence for Somma to fire home. Herd should have made the game safe for Lincoln after an hour when he broke clear but he finished with a weak shot which was saved by Steve Phillips, a miss he would rue further after Miller's late intervention.
