We have put together a shortlist of players from down the years and want you to select your favourite XI in a 4-4-2- formation.
The Germans have produced some mighty fine goalkeepers down the years of the World Cup. Indeed, narrowing our shortlist down to just six shot-stoppers was no easy task. Nor will selecting one from our half a dozen: will you go for the likes of Oliver Kahn or perhaps your memory stretches back even further to the performances of Sepp Maier.
Germany's rearguard has consistently been strong when looking back over their World Cup squads. Furthermore, the likes of the sensational Franz Beckenbauer take credit for revolutionising the sweeper role when he skipped his nation to glory in 1974. And what of Juergen Kohler and Andreas Brehme, surely players of their caliber are vying for positions in your back four.
In midfield, it will surely be near impossible to overlook Lothar Matthaeus, arguably one of the best footballers of all time. Elsewhere, Pierre Littbarski was an inspired dribbler while Wolfgang Overath boasted superb pinpoint passing ability.
Goodness, Germany's attacking talent has been of a consistently world-class standard during the history of the World Cup. Perhaps your front two will include the sometimes theatrical Jurgen Klinsmann? Or maybe you will opt for Germany's legendary attacker Helmut Rahn, who scored a brace in The Miracle of Berne.
