Title-winning captain focused on role at Tottenham

Tim Sherwood says he has not been approached by Blackburn Rovers, but is keen to become a manager in the future. Blackburn are looking for a new boss after sacking Sam Allardyce on Monday and Sherwood's name has been linked with the position. Sherwood captained Rovers to the Premier League title in 1995 and is currently part of Harry Redknapp's coaching staff at Tottenham Hotspur. The 41-year-old is presently content with learning from Redknapp, but believes Blackburn would be a good opportunity for a manager.

Happy

"I'm happy doing what I'm doing," said Sherwood. "I'm happy learning under the best manager you could possibly have at the moment. "I'm busy gaining my qualifications at a great club but who knows when new opportunities arise? I have not been approached but 100% I want to be a manager. "Blackburn are a great club, a fantastic club, the best club I've ever played for even if they were not the biggest. They have a great academy and training facilities and a good ground. "I know John Williams (the Blackburn chairman) well, he was the chief executive when I was there." New Rovers owners Venky's want to see the club finishing in the top five, but Sherwood, who was surprised by Allardyce's dismissal, feels Blackburn are no longer in a position to challenge high up in the Premier League. He added: "They will never win the league again, that would take Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour combined but Blackburn have got reasonable players. "They are good enough to get safety every year and knock on the door of six, seven and eight in the Premier League. "It was a surprise to hear about Allardyce but can you ever be shocked these days? A manager's position is always dodgy when a club gets new owners."
