Ex-Tykes chief keen to succeed Jones
Former Barnsley boss Mark Robins has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant manager's job at Cardiff.
Jones was axed by Cardiff at the end of last month after seeing his side crash out of the Championship play-offs to Reading.
A number of names have been linked with the vacant role and Robins admits he would be interested in succeeding Jones after leaving Barnsley last month.
"I am very interested in the Cardiff job and my details have been sent to the club," Robins told the
Western Mail.
"I think the Cardiff job is one of the best available in football at the moment. It really is a top, top job. It's a very exciting challenge and would be a great opportunity for anybody.
"If I do get the opportunity then that would be fantastic."
Ambitious
Robins believes the future is bright for Cardiff and that they can challenge for promotion to the Premier League.
"Everything at Cardiff is geared towards Premiership football and has been for a few seasons," he added.
"The facilities and the stadium are all at Premiership standard. Everything is ready there.
"They have been consistently pushing for promotion, but have just stumbled at that final hurdle.
"I believe Cardiff and myself share the same ambition now and that is to be operating in the Premiership."
