Ba bags top points in Sky Sports Fantasy Football over the weekend

Newcastle striker Demba Ba was the unlikely star in Sky Sports Fantasy Football at the weekend after firing a hat-trick past Blackburn to rack up 22 points. The Senegal striker admitted he had not had the best of starts to life at St James' Park as he went in to the weekend without a goal, but turned things round with a treble in a 3-1 win over Blackburn. Fantasy football bosses contemplating signing the £6m valued frontman might be encouraged by his record of scoring seven in 13 during his loan spell at West Ham last term, having netted 37 goals in 97 Bundesliga games previously for Hoffenheim. Unsurprisingly that performance saw him pick up the man of the match award and consequently top the points scoring charts for the weekend ahead of Chelsea midfielder Ramires. The Brazilian racked up 17 points for his brace in the Blues' 4-1 win over Swansea, which saw Fernando Torres continue his hit-and-miss form with a goal before seeing red. The Spaniard will now miss his side's next three games, solving a common quandary for Fantasy bosses over whether to take a gamble with the 26-year-old.

Backing a banker

In the weekend's preview, we called upon the betting expertise of Sky Bet to work out which of the big six's frontmen were bankers to bag as they were all odds-on to triumph on Saturday. Their price of 4/7 for Torres to net against the Swans proved good guidance as he opened the scoring at the Bridge, but another moment of madness undermined his efforts and reduced his points tally to four. With Wayne Rooney ruled out with a hamstring injury and Sergio Aguero only contributing an assist, Robin van Persie, Peter Crouch and Luis Suarez were the other big-scoring strikers with 12 points apiece. Crouch netted the equaliser for Stoke to end United's perfect start to the season and was named Sky Sports' man of the match for his efforts, while Van Persie bagged a brace in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Bolton. Man of the match Theo Walcott picked up 10 points with an assist against the Trotters before limping off, with Aaron Ramsey (£5.1m) notching up eight points for his two assists and Alex Song scoring one less after netting the Gunners' third. Their north London rivals also warmed up nicely for their derby date on Sunday with midfielders Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart netting in a 2-1 win at Wigan - Bale picking up 12 points with his man of the match award.

Suave Suarez

Meanwhile, Liverpool returned to form ahead of their own derby with a 2-1 win over Wolves with the game's second most popular pick Suarez netting and picking up the man of the match award. Points at the other end of the pitch remain at a premium with only four clean sheets kept, with Manchester City and Arsenal moving joint top of the shut outs table with their third wins to nil. But it is Swnasea's Ashley Williams (£4.2m) who tops the scoring charts for defenders with his total climbing to 28 following his goal at Stamford Bridge, while his team-mate Michel Vorm (£3.8m) remains the top-scoring stopper with 26.
