United striker welcomes reversal in fortune on the road
Wayne Rooney has described Manchester United's reversal in fortune on the road this season as 'amazing' with their away form keeping them in the title hunt.
The Red Devils were uncharacteristically sloppy on their travels last term, with a virtually faultless record at Old Trafford carrying them to a record-breaking 19th top-flight title.
This time around, United have already won as many games away from home (seven) as they managed in the whole of the 2010/11 campaign.
A 5-0 mauling of Fulham on Wednesday allowed them to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table and Rooney admits United are loving life on the road.
He said: "It is an amazing turnaround. Last season we only dropped two points at home but struggled away.
"This season we've already dropped five points at home but we're making up for that away."
Comfortable
Rooney was among the goals late on at Craven Cottage and he admits United 'took their foot off the gas' during the second half in an effort to conserve energy.
He added: "It was comfortable. In the second half we took our foot off the gas but we were always in control and were always going to win the game.
"We have a lot of games coming up so it was important not to run as much as we would normally have to."
Just two points separate United from league leaders Manchester City at Christmas and Rooney says the Red Devils are ideally placed to topple their arch-rivals heading into the New Year.
He said: "We know if we could win this game (against Fulham) then we would have two home games coming up (against Wigan and Blackburn) and we have a great chance of winning them both.
"We need to keep going and keep pushing City. If they do slip up, hopefully we will be there to pounce."
