New Manchester City signing David Pizarro hopes to help the club win their first top-flight league title since 1968.
The 32-year-old sealed a loan move to the Etihad Stadium on deadline day and could make his City debut against Fulham on Saturday.
The Chilean had only started five Serie A games for Roma this season and says the move happened very quickly.
He told
Citytv: "It was the winter break and football had stopped in Italy. I hadn't been in the first team for a while and Roberto's (Mancini) staff knew this.
"We had a chat but I didn't think it would come to this.
"It was very, very late and a bit of a rush when it did happen, there had been talk of interest from Juventus. But it was just that, just talk.
"I moved to Italy when I was 19 and the country feels like a home to me. I never thought I would be changing country or changing culture."
Impact
The midfielder also said he had not spoken with the City boss yet but was confident he could have a positive impact on the team.
He added: "I haven't spoken to Roberto yet but I'm sure we will sit down soon and discuss what my role will be at the club and what he wants me to do.
"I like to play good football and pass the ball around, so I think that combined with players like David Silva and Sergio Aguero will be a positive mix.
"It's great when a manager has confidence in you to bring you to a club, and wants you in the title run-in. I will try to help make history with this club and win the league title."
Shirt
Pizarro will wear the number eight shirt at his new club, a number made famous by City legend Colin Bell.
"It's a big honour to wear the number 8 shirt but back at Roma there was a similar situation when I wore the number 7 shirt of Bruno Conti," he explained.
Despite not playing many games this season, the Chilean is keen to start his Man City career and wants to play against Fulham on Saturday evening.
He said: "I'm fit and ready to play at the weekend.
"I arrived with City at the top of the league and let's hope we finish there."
