Mitsanski sinks Holland with last ditch header in Amsterdam

Holland's preparations for Euro 2012 suffered a setback following a surprise 2-1 friendly defeat to Bulgaria in Amsterdam. Substitute Illiyan Mitsanski headed a stoppage-time goal to inflict a rare defeat for one of the favourites for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine this summer. Coach Bert van Marwijk, who named his 23-man squad for the tournament earlier in the day, suffered his first setback after 15 minutes when central defender Joris Mathijsen limped off and was replaced by Wilfred Bouma. The 2010 World Cup runners-up never got striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar into the game in a near full-strength Oranje team. But after Valeri Bozhinov had hit the crossbar with a 20-yard free kick for Bulgaria, the Dutch opened the scoring thanks to Robin van Persie on the stroke of half-time. Ivelin Popov equalised early in the second half from the penalty spot after Rafael van der Vaart handled in the area. The Dutch brought on Bayern Munich forward Arjen Robben in the final 15 minutes but defensive sloppiness allowed the unmarked Mizanski to pop up at the death to silence the home crowd. The win will do much for Bulgaria's confidence as they look to recover from a dismal European qualifying campaign which saw them finish last in their group.
