Premier League: Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh closing on return

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock could welcome back Marouane Chamakh for Saturday’s Premier League game with Leicester.

Warnock made 11 changes for Wednesday night’s 3-2 extra-time defeat by Newcastle in the Capital One Cup to the side that won by the same scoreline away to Everton at the weekend.

Striker Chamakh missed both games with a hamstring injury but is pushing for a place among the substitutes against Leicester, with Warnock suggesting he will revert to the same side that won at Goodison Park.

"Chamakh will be available. He was very close to being available last weekend but we felt it was not worth the risk,” said Warnock.

"There won't be many changes from Everton. At Everton we were fantastic, so I don't envisage many changes.

"But it's nice to look at the squad, the second group of players, knowing what you can bring into the squad.

Neil Warnock feels it was wrong for the stadium announcer to reveal who the winners of Crystal Palace v Newcastle would face in the next round.

"That was the pleasing thing, the way we played, we enjoyed it, we went forward whenever we could, we looked like we wanted to go out and play football in the cup.

"They all played really well against a strong Newcastle team. It showed we've got quite a good squad."

Meanwhile, Warnock was unhappy with the stadium announcement, made while the match with Newcastle was ongoing, that Manchester City would be the winners’ opponents in the fourth round.

"I made an enquiry after the game, because I was disappointed, if I'm honest," added Warnock.

"I don't think it should have been announced. I don't know why it was announced and who announced it. I'm sure there will be some enquiries.

"I felt it was out of order for both sets of fans, who just wanted to get on with the game."
