Premier League: Hull City boss Steve Bruce left counting cost after 2-0 win over Everton

HULL, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 28: Steve Bruce, Manager of Hull City during the Barclays Premier League match between Hull City and Leicester City at KC Stadium

Hull boss Steve Bruce was pleased with his side after their 2-0 win against Everton, but was counting the cost after more injuries dampened his mood.

Two wins from three over the festive period has seen Hull climb two points clear of the relegation zone after a run of 10 games without victory prior to their Boxing Day success at Sunderland.

First half strikes from Ahmed Elmohamady and Nikica Jelavic put the hosts in command against the Toffees, and they held firm for a vital three points, much to the delight of Bruce.

“It was a good performance and what we needed at this particular time,” Bruce told Sky Sports.

Matt Le Tissier says Hull thoroughly deserved their win over Everton

"We look back on it again, which was good to see. We are under no illusions, we are expected to be in and around where we are.

"We have been on a tough run for one reason or another, and we are only in our second season (in the Premier League), but today we showed what we are about.

However, despite all the positives from the victory, both Andrew Robertson and Liam Rosenior had to be replaced due to injuries, which Bruce blames on the sheer number of games at this time of year.

“The ridiculous schedule has taken its toll, and we have lost four or five players through injury,” Bruce added.

“You get these injuries when you are fatigued. Just as we are getting players back we have lost another four or five.”
