Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes that Tim Sherwood is the right man to manage the club

Sherwood has signed a three-and-a-half year deal to manage the struggling midlands club with former England boss Hoddle linked with a coaching role.

And Hendrie believes an experienced coach would be a boost to Sherwood’s backroom team.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "It would be great to see someone like Hoddle, who’s been there and done it.

"He has got the experience and can give him some guidance.

"Someone like him would be fantastic.

"He [Sherwood] will need someone who’s been there and done it I think."

More from Villa Appoint Sherwood

Hoddle was a coach at QPR before leaving his role when manager Harry Redknapp resigned as manager earlier this month.

Hendrie has also backed Sherwood to prove a point after his six-month spell in charge at Tottenham last year was cut short.

"He wants to prove a point, he had a little taste of it at Spurs," added Hendrie.

"He's been linked with a few jobs.

"He’s a fresh face, he knows all about the game, and has got a bit of experience.

"I think he will do well there and bring a few of them youngsters on."

The former Villa star also believes that Sherwood does not have to worry about getting sacked if the club are relegated to the Sky Bet Championship.

"He can plan and he doesn’t have to worry about getting sacked in six months if they go down," Hendrie added.

"It’s three years he’s signed for. He’ll go on and push that club out of the relegation zone and back where they should be.

"It’s a massive club which is suffering so much with a massive fan base."
