Lyon potentially threw away their title hopes after they conceded twice in the final three minutes at Nice.

Two-goal lead surrendered in closing minutes against strugglers

Lyon threw away a two-goal lead and potentially their Ligue 1 title hopes after they conceded twice in the final three minutes to draw at Nice. The visitors were cruising at 2-0 as the game entered its final minute, but Eric Mouloungui's penalty was followed by a Renato Civelli equaliser deep into injury-time. Lyon, who remain eight points behind Lille, bossed the first half and took the lead after 21 minutes when Kim Kallstrom curled in a wonderful free-kick after Francois Clerc had fouled Bafetimbi Gomis 25 yards from goal. On a rare foray forward, Nice almost equalised five minutes later, as Nemanja Pejcinovic swung a free-kick into the area which Civelli nodded on, but Clerc failed to direct his header goalwards from close range. It proved a big miss, as Lyon doubled their advantage a minute before the break. Maxime Gonalons seized possession before driving forward and playing in Lisandro Lopez. The Argentinian striker coolly took it in his stride before slotting past home goalkeeper David Ospina. Nice ought to have halved the deficit five minutes after the break when Daniel Ljuboja was fouled inside the area by Pape Diakhate, but Ljuboja's spot-kick was well saved by Lyon and France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Glorious opportunity

Ospina denied Jimmy Briand a third on the break while, at the other end, Ljuboja again missed when put clean through. Yoann Gourcuff wasted a glorious opportunity to seal the points after 73 minutes when he rounded Ospina, but could only place his shot against the post from a tight angle. Kallstrom also came close for Lyon with nine minutes to go, the Swede's free-kick shaving the left upright. Nevertheless, Lyon must have thought they had done enough, but Nice pulled one back in the final minute when Diakhate conceded another penalty - an offence for which he received a second yellow card - and Mouloungui slotted home. And, astonishingly, the hosts struck again three minutes later when Civelli threw himself at a Pejcinovic effort to turn the ball home. The comeback enabled Nice to move three points clear of the bottom three.
