Town and Stanley share spoils

Northampton are still looking for their first win and goals of the new season after being held to a 0-0 home draw by Accrington.

The Cobblers had the majority of the possession in a dull affair against an Accrington side boosted by their midweek Carling Cup success at Championship outfit Doncaster. Accrington proved a tough nut to crack and looked to be happy with a point as they thwarted Northampton in the final third. Town had the better of the chances in the 90 minutes while keeper Oscar Jansson was untroubled by the visitors at the other end. In a first half of few chances Billy McKay came closest to breaking the deadlock but his lob was well dealt with by Accrington keeper Ian Dunbavin. McKay should have given Northampton the advantage five minutes after the restart when he broke clear but, with just Dunbavin to beat, he shot straight at the keeper. And it was McKay again who came closest to ending the stalemate in the 75th minute when he was picked out by Kevin Thornton but from a good position once again he shot straight at Dunbavin.
