Keith Curle picked up a point from his first match in charge of Northampton as Bury held them to a goalless draw for the second successive home game.
Curle took over from Dean Austin on Monday and witnessed his new team claim just their fourth home point of the season, putting them only two points off the bottom of League Two.
Adam Thompson's header clattered the crossbar in just the third minute and Nicky Adams volleyed over as Bury made the stronger start.
Northampton grew into the game and went close themselves when Matt Crooks nodded against a defender on the line and then Andy Williams clipped the outside of the post.
Byron Moore struck the woodwork at the other end but it was the home side who should have taken a lead into half-time, Sam Hoskins twice failing to beat goalkeeper Joe Murphy when through on goal.
The second half was less of a spectacle as both teams struggled to carve out clear chances with Jay O'Shea's well-struck free-kick the closest either went to winning it.
