John-Joe O'Toole missed glorious chance for Cobblers
Saturday 16 February 2019 18:18, UK
Northampton and Crawley both moved a step closer to League Two safety after playing out a dour goalless draw on Saturday.
The home side had the clearer opportunities but an error-strewn, low-quality game always looked likely to end in stalemate.
David Buchanan cleared Tom Dallison's early header off the line before the Cobblers squandered a clear opportunity of their own seconds later, John-Joe O'Toole skewing a shot over the crossbar from close-range.
Sam Hoskins also failed to hit the target after a bit of pinball in the visiting penalty box, while Timi Elsnik hooked a volley just over the crossbar - but a poor first half was otherwise bereft of goalmouth action.
The second period was a marginal improvement and Northampton continued to have the better of the chances with Ash Taylor heading over at the back post and then Glenn Morris producing a fine stop from Joe Powell.
Powell's free-kick was also a whisker away, while Ollie Palmer twice threatened for Crawley before David Cornell kept out Dominic Poleon's effort in stoppage-time.
