Cobblers' unbeaten home run comes to an end

Oldham substitute Andy Liddell grabbed the only goal of the game to end Northampton's unbeaten home record. The experienced striker converted a 75th-minute penalty, sending goalkeeper Frank Fielding the wrong way, after Lee Hughes had been tripped in the box by Jason Crowe. But Northampton can have few complaints after failing to trouble the visitors, who created the better chances in a dour affair. Oldham finished the game with 10-men after Hughes was dismissed in stoppage time for a second bookable offence. Hughes twice had the ball in the net in the first half, but each time the effort was ruled out for offside, but the former West Brom striker almost broke the deadlock just before the break when his shot on the turn struck the upright. Leon Constantine had Northampton's best second-half chance, but he fired over the crossbar in the 73rd minute before Liddell won it for Oldham from the spot.
