Ten-man Northampton hung on to take a point against high-flying Port Vale in a goalless draw at Sixfields.

The Cobblers were reduced to 10 men just before half-time when Abdul Osman was dismissed for a challenge on Anthony Griffith. But they held on in the second half to maintain their mini revival and leave Vale rueing missed opportunities. In a dull first half chances were few and far between. Former Town striker Marc Richards glanced a header wide for Vale and Billy McKay shot straight at visiting keeper Stuart Tomlinson from close range. But the half ended in controversy when Osman received a straight red card to leave Northampton facing an uphill struggle in the second half. Vale had two great opportunities to win it, first Sean Rigg was off target at the far post before substitute Justin Richards saw Chris Dunn save after he broke clean through. Michael Jacobs nearly caught Tomlinson with a 30-yard drive but Vale came closest in stoppage time when substitute Louis Dodds rattled the crossbar with Dunn well beaten.
