Latics frustrated by Carlisle

Oldham were left to curse missed chances as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Carlisle.

Sheridan's men dominate but fail to make the breakthrough

Oldham were left to curse missed chances as they were held to a goalless draw against a Carlisle side that has failed to average a goal a game on their travels. John Sheridan's high-flyers had 21 shots and 19 corners in a one-way contest. It was only the second time this season they had failed to score at Boundary Park. Leading scorer Lee Hughes had the best of the opportunities and should have comfortably added to his 13-goal tally. He fired over from the edge of the box in the 41st minute then had another effort saved a minute later. Strike partner Darren Byfield, cleverly picked out in the box by defender Neal Erdley, was also wasteful a minute later. Yet another chance went begging on the stroke of half-time when Hughes had a close-range header tipped over the crossbar by Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul. The second half followed much the same pattern. Hughes was again out of luck in the 56th minute when his shot was saved and Mark Allott blasted way over in the 69th minute. Carlisle's best chance came after 77 minutes when substitute Scott Dobie headed just over following a dangerous cross from Cleveland Taylor. The Cumbrians had another chance to nick all three points with just two minutes to go but Taylor carelessly lifted his shot over the bar.
